The University of Zimbabwe Libraries exist to facilitate and support the teaching, learning, research, and community engagement activities of the University through the provision of information resources and services in print, non-print, and electronic formats.

As the heart of scholarly communication within the University, the Library plays a critical role in enabling academic excellence, advancing knowledge creation, and preserving the intellectual output of the institution. It ensures that all members of the University community have timely and reliable access to global and local scholarly information.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Use the library catalogue – Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC).
  • OPAC is a web-based database of library materials housed in the UZ Libraries.

  • Open the Library Catalogue.
  • Select your search option (Author, Title, Subject, Keyword, or Call Number).
  • Type your search term(s) in the search box and click Go or press Enter.
  • From the results list, identify and select relevant titles.
  • Take note of the call number and location to retrieve books from shelves.

  • Open the Library Catalogue and log in to your account to view borrowed items and due dates.

  • You must be a registered UZ Library user.
  • Search and retrieve items from shelves as guided by OPAC.
  • In the Main Library, check out and return materials at the Main Circulation Desk.
  • In branch libraries, use the local Circulation Desk.
  • More information on membership rules is available on the Client Services page.

  • Click on the “e-Resources” menu on the library website.
  • Campus Access: Access databases freely without login within UZ network.
  • Off-Campus Access: Requires RemoteXs registration to access databases from outside campus.
  • Open Access e-Resources: Lists free databases available to developing countries, organized by Faculty.

  • Wireless Internet access available throughout the library and campus.
  • Desktop computers in the Main Hall for internet and research access.
  • Research Commons for collaborative research and online study.
  • Multi-Media Centre with computers, headphones, webcams, and TVs for academic media.
  • Collaborative Learning Centre equipped with research tools.
  • Postgraduate Computer Lab exclusive for postgraduate students.
